Founded by Attorney Andy Viera-Rivera, a licensed attorney and Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York and Puerto Rico, the firm combines legal expertise with a human-centered approach. Andy Viera-Rivera, Esq., LCSW is a proud bilingual attorney, born and raised in Puerto Rico, and fully licensed to practice law in both New York and Puerto Rico. As the founder of The Viera Law Firm, he focuses his legal practice on Immigration and Family Law, two areas deeply connected to his personal story and professional mission. Andy is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, bringing a unique, trauma-informed perspective to his legal practice.
Andy identifies as both Latino and Immigrant, identities that ground his life’s work and allow him to truly understand the people he serves. He has dedicated over eight years to working closely with immigrant communities across New York City, building trust and advocating for justice in spaces where voices are too often silenced.
Early in his legal career, Andy worked as an associate attorney in private practice, handling complex immigration and family law cases for clients from around the world. Compelled by a deep sense of justice and compassion, he later joined a prominent nonprofit organization, where he provided legal support to individuals fleeing violence, persecution, and trauma. In this role, he worked with people from diverse backgrounds, different countries, cultures, and languages, helping them navigate the U.S. immigration system and find a path toward safety and stability.
Most recently, Andy served as an Assistant Chief Counsel (Prosecutor) for the Department of Homeland Security in New York City, under both the administrations of President Biden and President Trump. In that position, he gained significant trial experience and developed a strong reputation as a fair and effective litigator in removal proceedings.
But Andy’s calling was never just about practicing law, it was about creating impact.
The Viera Law Firm was born from a simple but powerful truth: Immigrants are the backbone of this nation. In a time when the tone surrounding immigration has grown increasingly harsh, Andy knew it was time to take a stand. As someone who has lived the immigrant experience, he understands the fear, uncertainty, and unyielding hope that come with leaving everything behind in search of something better.
